RESEARCH INTEREST

Marine bioactive lipids;Lipidomics; Seafood chemistry

My current research is mainly focused onmarine bioactive lipids, including preparation, analysis and characterization of complex lipids (e.g. cerebrosides, gangliosides, sulfatides, DHA/EPA-enriched phospholipids andplasmalogens); trying to understand the hydrolysis and oxidation mechanisms of phospholipids, glycerides and free fatty acids in the processing and storage of seafood; evaluation effects of bioactive lipids on Alzheimer’s disease and metabolic syndrome through Lipidomics strategy.

Research Experiences

My research interests have revolved around separating, analyzing, and identifying bioactive substances from seafood, especially rare and traditional seafood in China, such as sea cucumber, sea urchin, abalone, algae, etc. A variety of bioactive substances in seafood are identified with characteristic structures, for example fucoidans, collagens, phospholipids, sphingolipids, astaxanthins and so on. These compounds not only serve as nutrition, but also impact to human health. During the three-month period at Kyoto University, I focused on the field of cerebrosides from sea cucumber in Dr. Takashi Hirata’s lab.
