The Sino-Australian Research Consortium for Coastal Management (SARCCM) is an international research institute jointly established by OUC and the University of New South Wales in Australia. It carries out interdisciplinary research in areas of humanities and social sciences related to the ocean, and highlights comparative research in addition to basic and applied research. Since its establishment in November 2010, SARCCM has hosted events such as the annual seminar on Sino-Australian cooperation and international research projects. It is also engaged in the cultivation of graduate students. It advises policy-making of relevant government agencies, serving its role as a think tank. SARCCM focuses on the following research areas: marine disaster risk assessment and emergency management, marine resources assessment and coastal zone planning, sustainable development of urban clusters and islands, and ecological and environmental problems and governance.
