Luo Yirong

Dr. Luo Yirong has been working as Associate Professor to Full Professor in the Chinese Department,Ocean University of China from the year of 1995 to date.

He is the Chinese translator of eleven English books including four novels, Changing Places, Small World, Nice Work and Therapy, by British writer David Lodge, and author of Approach to Dialogism: Literature • Self • Communication, among other works. His papers appeared in Academic Journals such as Foreign Literature Studies (Wuhan), Foreign Literature (Beijing University), Yilin (Nanjing). His research interests include: English novels, Bakhtin’s dialogism theory, intercultural communication. He gives undergraduate courses Introduction to Western Literature; Western Modernism; Introduction to Masterpieces of Western Literature; graduate courses Dialogism Theory; Study of David Lodge; Anglo-American Literature Studies, He also gives courses including Advanced Chinese Texts; English-Chinese Translation; Chinese Culture; Chinese Creative Writing to overseas students studying Chinese as second language.

He earned his B.A. degree in Chinese language & literature from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, in 1984; his M.A. diploma in foreign literature from Institute of Foreign Literature, Chinese Academy of Social Science, Beijing, in 1990; his Ph.D. degree in comparative literature and world literature from Tientsin Normal University, Tientsin, in 2009.

During his tenure at Ocean University of China, as part time administrative task, he used to be the first Head of the Department of Journalism & Communication in the College of Liberal Arts, Ocean University of China (2002--2004); Deputy Dean of the College of Journalism & Communication (2004.03—2006.10), Deputy Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Journalism and Communication at the same University.

He used to be visiting instructor of Burapha University, Thailand (1999--2000), visiting scholar of the University of Cambridge, U.K., (2006--2007), visiting Professor and first Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University (2009—2011).
