Non-Degree Programs


1.Regular Chinese Language Programs for Diploma


Since the early 1990s, the Department of Sinology has offered regular Chinese course programs to international students from all over the world, with elementary, intermediate and advanced Chinese language courses and classes for students with different levels of language skill, ranging from A to F. The courses are as follows: Integrated Chinese Language, Chinese Listening, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Extensive Reading, Chinese Writing, Newspaper Readings, Chinese by Video, Audio & Speaking, Business Chinese, Current Political Affairs Discussion, Classical Chinese, Modern and Contemporary Literature, and Chinese culture.

Registration, Accommodation and Fees: OUC’s International Education Center provides services of registration and accommodation for all international students at OUC, including the students who enroll in the College of Liberal Arts, Journalism and Communication. For more details, please go to:

2.Regular Summer School for Chinese Language


A one-month Chinese language program will be offered on a regular basis during every summer holiday by the Department of Sinology. Classes based on cooperative programs with overseas universities will be offered, and the summer school also provides tailored curriculum and courses according to requirements of our partner universities. The department has established close cooperative relationships with such universities as Texas A&M University, University of South Florida, The Ohio State University, University of Minnesota, West Virginia University, Dan Kook University and Pusan University of Foreign Studies etc.

3. “Cambridge Class” and “Study Abroad” Program for Students from Overseas Partner Universities


The Department offers tailored curriculum/courses for overseas students who study Chinese language or similar subjects at their home universities. Partner universities of this program include the University of Cambridge and Texas A&M University. Since 1995, every year, third-year students from the Department of East Asia Studies of the University of Cambridge study in the department for 10 months. Courses offered are as follows: Readings in Ancient Chinese (including texts specified by Cambridge), Readings in Ancient Literature (including texts specified by Cambridge), Modern and Contemporary Literature, Newspaper Readings, Aural and Oral Chinese, Chinese Writing, English-Chinese Translation, and Dissertation Guidance/advice (upon request).
