Dr. Liu Zhongfu, is a professor and Ph.D. Supervisor of the College of Liberal Arts, Journalism and Communication, Ocean University of China,, and he got his BA from Chinese Department of Shandong Normal University in 1984, his MA from Chinese Department of Shandong University in 1987, and his Ph. D. from East China Normal University in 2004. He joined the faculty of Chinese Department of Shandong Normal University in 1987, working firstly as a MA adviser of Chinese philology in 2000 and then as a Ph. D. supervisor of Chinese philology in 2006. He is currently the deputy dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Journalism and Communication, Ocean University of China, and the vice-chair of the Linguistics Association of Shandong Province.
His teaching and research interests cover Chinese lexics and philology. His publications include six monographs A Study of the Chinese Jargon (Nanhai Press, 1997), Cants and Argots (Xinhua Publishing House, 1998), A Study of Chinese Cants and Argots (China Culture and History Press, 2003), Practical Chinese Vocabulary (Anhui Education Press, 2003), A Study of Word Type in Gan Lu Zi Shu (Qi Lu Press, 2004) and Contrastive Description and Statistical Analysis: A Study of Modern Chinese Dictionary (Shandong People’s Publishing House, 2006). He has co-authored or edited over ten books such as Dictionary of Chinese Language Knowledge (Police Education Press, 1996), Language in Advertisement ( Shandong Education Press, 1992), A Survey of Linguistics (Shandong University Press, 1998), A study of Modern Chinese and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(Ocean university of China Press, 2011), etc. Besides, he has published more than forty academic papers in some influential journals such as Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy, Chinese Language Learning, Contemporary Rhetoric, Dongyue Tribune, Journal of Shandong University, Studies of Chinese Characters, etc. He was also independently in charge of the Social Science Research Program Project of Shandong Province “A Study of Gan Lu Zi Shu” from 2004 to 2006.
