In terms of postgraduate training, the College has two first-class disciplines and postdoctoral stations of Marine Science and Atmospheric Science, and five masters’ and doctoral programs of Physical Oceanography, Applied Oceanography, Integrated Management Marine Resources and Equity, Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics and Atmospheric Environment.

Physical Oceanography: Physical Oceanography is a basic discipline of marine science that includes the study of force field, thermohaline structure, and temporal and spatial variation of various mechanical movements in the ocean. This discipline makes use of the methods and viewpoint of physics to study substance exchange, momentum exchange, energy exchange and ocean conversion.

Operational Oceanography: Based onPhysical Oceanography, Applied Oceanographyincludes the study of spatial and temporal variation and prediction mechanism in the marine hydrological environment as well as providing protection for human maritime activities. It is usedmainly in marine fisheries, coastal and marine engineering,exploration and exploitation of offshore oil and minerals, coastal economic planning and development, as well as marine and military maritime activities, providing features of spacedistribution and time variation of environmental elements in the oceanographic field.

Integrated management of marine resources and interests: The object of research includes the entire ocean and maritime activities with studies on integrated management theory and research models of marine resources and interests. Focus is on the development of China’s modern ocean management technology, utilizing natural attributes and rules of change and motion along with reasonable, scientific, coordinated and sustainable development theories.

Meteorology: The discipline of marine meteorology focuses on ocean-atmosphere interactions, ocean climate dynamics, mesoscale meteorology and atmospheric environmental research work. Marine Meteorologyhas the distinct feature of interrelatingmarineand meteorological disciplines. This department has meteorological internship units, a numerical simulation laboratory, atmospheric detection laboratory and ocean- atmosphere interaction and climate laboratory. Graduate students can be engaged in research and teaching work of atmospheric science and marine science as well as other high-level management positions.

Atmospheric Physics and Atmospheric Environment: This is an emerging discipline that relies on atmospheric science and its interrelationship with marine science and environmental science. It is mainly engaged in such observational studies as ocean- atmosphere boundary layer physics, remote sensing of sea fog and other weather disasters, and large aerosol. The department has undertaken and hosted a number of major national and provincial research projects and has made a series of achievements in satellite remote sensing data retrieval technology as well as mesoscale atmospheric processes, winning a number of national awards. This discipline has meteorological internship units, a numerical simulation laboratory, atmospheric detection laboratory and ocean-atmosphere interaction and climate laboratory. Graduate students may be engaged in research and teaching of atmospheric and oceanic sciences as well as high-level technology and management.
