On October 18, upon the 100th anniversary of Ocean University of China (OUC), the delegation of the University of Adelaide (UoA), led by Vice-Chancellor and President Peter Høj, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Jessica Gallagher, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Suzanne Le Mire visited OUC. President Zhang Junfeng and Vice President Liu Yong met with the guests. The two side had discussions on deepening strategic cooperation.
Zhang Junfeng expressed welcome and thanks to Vice-Chancellor and President Peter Høj and his delegation for visiting OUC to congratulate on OUC’s centenary and promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation. He briefly reviewed the history of exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. He fully affirmed the fruitful achievements made by the two universities in cooperative education. He noted that Haide College, a cooperative educational institution jointly established by the two universities, has achieved remarkable outcomes. Students from Haide College have performed outstandingly in well-known international competitions and volunteer services. Many of the first cohort of graduates have been admitted into top universities at home and abroad. OUC will continue to work closely with UoA to ensure the success of the Haide College, and expand the joint cultivation of innovative talent and collaborative research to more academic areas.
President Peter Høj spoke of the remarkable results achieved in the cooperative education between the two universities, and the students’ excellent academic performances. Among the first batch of nine students who went to the UoA for the 2+2 program, seven obtained highly competitive doctoral scholarships after graduation, and six of them received full scholarships from UoA. He expected to see increased student mobility in both directions and more outcomes in collaborative research.
On the same day, the Joint Management Committee Meeting of Haide College was held. Zhang Junfeng, President of OUC, Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UoA, Susan Lemire, Pro Vice-Chancellor of UoA and other representatives attended the meeting. Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC, presided over the meeting. The Joint Management Committee reviewed the performance of Haide College in 2024, in terms of enrollment, teaching arrangements, course introduction, student grades and the development of graduates, discussed relevant issues, and proposed working arrangements, including accreditation of academic programs, dual degree awarding, and the establishment of a joint research mechanism.
After the meeting, the delegation had a round-table discussion with representatives from several colleges of OUC to discuss education and research cooperation in multiple fields, such as chemical engineering, ocean sustainable development, climate change, and business. Li Weidong, Director of the International Office, presided over the round-table discussion.
The delegation attended the joint celebration of OUC’s 100th anniversary and UoA’s 150th anniversary, during which Zhang Junfeng and Peter Høj delivered speeches. The two universities will deepen practical cooperation and join hands to create new glories.
