From May 6 to 10, Tian Hui, Chairman of the Ocean University of China Council, led a delegation to Hong Kong and Macao, China. The delegation visited the Tung Foundation, City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), University of Macao (UM), and Macao University of Science and Technology (MUST), aiming to deepen practical cooperation between OUC and these institutions. The delegates also met with alumni while conducting a flag relay event to commemorate the university’s centenary.
The delegation visited the Tung Foundation in Hong Kong, where Tian met with Mr. Tung Chee-Chen, Chairman of the Tung Group and Trustee of the Tung Foundation, and Mr. Alan Tung Lieh-Sing, Manager of the Tung Group and Trustee of the Tung Foundation. On behalf of OUC, Tian expressed his gratitude and respect for the support from the Tung Foundation. He emphasized the university’s commitment to developing the Tung International Research Center for Sustainable Ocean Development (TIRC-SOD). Moving forward, OUC will continue to focus on marine sustainable development, addressing national strategic needs, resolving major societal issues, and enhancing global exchanges and cooperation to build TIRC-SOD with even higher quality. Mr. Tung Chee-Chen and Mr. Alan Tung Lieh-Sing fully acknowledged the achievements of TIRC-SOD and offered their suggestions for its future development..
In the visits to CityU, HKUST, UM and MUST, the delegation met with the university leaders respectively, including CityU Vice President and CityU (Dongguan) Executive President Lu Chun, HKUST Provost Guo Yike, UM Rector Song Yonghua and MUST President Joseph Hun-wei Lee. Tian introduced the significant achievements of OUC since its reform, and the progress of its centennial celebration activities. He looked back on the fruitful outcomes of inter-university faculty and student visits, academic exchanges, and collaborative research, and dived into the ways to deepen and expand exchanges and strengthen pragmatic cooperation. On behalf of OUC, Tian renewed the MoU with CityU and signed a new MoU with HKUST, aiming to further improve bonds, enhance exchanges, and deepen cooperation to contribute more to China’s national development and rejuvenation. The delegation also visited the teaching and research facilities such as the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution at CityU, the Coastal Marine Laboratory at HKUST, the State Key Laboratory of IoT for Smart City at UM, and the National Observation and Research Station of Coastal Ecological Environments in Macao at MUST.
