On April 19, Prof. Marcus Lane, Deputy Vice Chancellor of James Cook University (JCU), led a delegation to OUC. Prof. Yu Zhigang, President of OUC, and Prof. Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC, received the guests.
Prof. Yu Zhigang extended his warm welcome to the delegation and introduced the development of OUC in recent years and the building of the Sanya Oceanographic Institute. He reviewed the history of friendly exchanges between OUC and JCU in joint education and scientific research in marine-related fields. He spoke on the shared strengths of the two universities in marine science, fishery, life science and geoscience. Based on previous cooperation, the two universities will promote further cooperation by combining the joint education of PhD students with scientific research, running joint education programs and building a research center.
Prof. Marcus Lane expressed his gratitude to OUC for the warm reception. He spoke highly of the development of OUC and introduced the recent research progress of JCU. He pointed out that JCU is at the forefront of natural science and life science, especially in tropical marine research. He hoped to deepen the cooperation with OUC by building a collaborative mechanism of marine education between China and Australia, and further strengthen collaborations in talent cultivation and research by giving full play to the universities’ respective advantages.
