OUC Joined in the Launching of China-Portuguese Speaking Countries Ocean Research Alliance

On September 9, 2022, Ocean University of China (OUC), at the invitation of the University of Macau, joined in the launching of the China-Portuguese Speaking Countries Ocean Research Alliance. The launching ceremony and the first council meeting was held online.



Prof. Yu Zhigang, President of OUC, celebrated the establishment of the Alliance with representatives of 19 marine-related universities and institutions from China, Portugal, Brazil, Angola, and Mozambique. Prof. Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC, delivered a speech at the meeting. He extended his warmest congratulations and pointed out that the establishment of the Alliance is of great significance to the building of a cooperation platform for ocean research, as it enables meaningful exchanges and collaboration among China-Portuguese speaking countries in ocean research and education, helps address challenges, and applies marine science to the sustainable development of humanity. 


More than 70 representatives from China and Portuguese-speaking countries attended the meeting. 



After the launching ceremony and the first council meeting, the 1st China-Portuguese speaking countries Ocean Science and Education Seminar was held. Prof. Lin Xiaopei, Dean of the School of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, attended the seminar.


The founding members of the Alliance include marine-related universities and institutes of China and Portuguese-speaking countries. They are committed to promoting exchanges and collaboration among China and Portuguese-speaking countries in ocean studies, playing active roles in building a maritime community with a shared future.
