Prof. Jia Yonggang’s Team Won ICGdR Technology Invention Award

During the 20th International Symposium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR) held at Kanazawa University in August, winners of this year’s ICGdR awards were announced. Prof. Jia Yonggang’s team (College of Environmental Science and Engineering, OUC) won the ICGdR Technology Invention Award for its research outcomes in in-situ geological environment monitoring technology for deep-sea engineering.

The research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and conducted in collaboration with researchers from the Second Institute of Oceanography (Ministry of Natural Resources). The team developed the world’s first in-situ geological environment monitoring equipment for deep-sea engineering and made a number of technological breakthroughs. The equipment has been put into application and titled one of the Top 10 Geological Science and Technology Advances in China in 2021.

Prof. Liu Xiaolei (College of Environmental Science and Engineering, OUC) received the ICGdR Outstanding Young Scientist Award. This award honors young scientists who make outstanding contributions to the research or social services related to geo-disaster reduction.

The ICGdR is a non-governmental organization with member institutions from all over the world that are engaged in the analysis, forecasting, and management of geo-disasters.
