On May 26, 2022, Prof. Zhang Yuzhong’s team from the College of Marine Life Sciences, Ocean University of China (OUC) published online a paper entitled “Insights into methionine S-methylation in diverse organisms” in Nature Communications.
Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is one of the most abundant organosulfur compounds on earth. As an important source of carbon and sulfur for marine microorganisms, DMSP has many important physiological and ecological functions. Studies on the synthesis and metabolic processes and mechanisms of DMSP are a popular topic in the field of sulfur cycle worldwide.
For many years, Prof. Zhang’s team has been engaged in marine microbiological and microbial oceanographic research, producing research findings in marine microorganism-driven carbon, nitrogen and sulfur cycling. This research marks another major development in marine microbiology and marine microbial enzymology.
