On February 16, China’s Top 10 Ocean Science and Technology Advances in 2021 were released. The “Unique life characteristics of microorganisms in extreme marine environments and mechanisms of environmental and ecological effects”, a study led by Prof. Zhang Yuzhong (College of Marine Life Sciences, OUC), was listed, which highlights OUC’s influence in China’s marine research.

For many years, Prof. Zhang’s team has been engaged in marine microbiological and microbial oceanographic research, producing research findings in marine microorganism-driven carbon, nitrogen and sulfur cycling. Its latest research finding in 2021, marks another major development in the unique life characteristics of microorganisms in extreme marine environments and the mechanisms of environmental ecological effects. Related research results were published in high-level international journals such as Nature and Science.
