OUC Makes Progress in Novel Biomimetic Materials Research

Recently, the Marine Biomaterial team of Sars-Fang Centre, a new institute at  Ocean University of China (OUC), has made progress in its novel biomimetic materials research. The results were published online in September 2021 in Bioactive Materials, a top journal in the field of biomaterials, under the title of Exploration of sea anemone inspired high performance biomaterials with enhanced antioxidant activity. This study provides  new ideas for the exploration and application of novel biomimetic medical materials derived from the ocean.

In addition to the published paper, a patent application for the new material has been filed (CN201910645175.0). The first author of the paper is Wang Lulu, a PhD candidate at the College of Marine Life Sciences of OUC. The corresponding authors are Prof. Liu Weizhi from OUC and Prof. Lyu Qiang from Soochow University. Several faculty members from the College of Marine Life Sciences of OUC, Shandong University, and the First Institute of Oceanography contributed to the research. This work was supported by the Natural Science Foundation of China, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
