OUC joins ASEAN-FEN+ for new opportunity in ASEAN education cooperation

OUC delegation was invited to take part in the International Fisheries Symposium in Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, from October 31 to November 2, signing the MOU on cooperation with ASEAN Fisheries Education Network as a new member of ASEAN-FEN+. 


Well known in ASEAN fisheries education and industry, the 6th International Fisheries Symposium is an annual event given by ASEAN Fisheries Education Network. Organized by Can Tho University in Vietnam, this year’s event was themed on Healthier Aquaculture and Fisheries for Food Safety and Security. Over 500 delegates from universities and enterprises participated in it from ASEAN, China, Japan and Belgium, exchanging ideas by giving presentations, group reports and exhibitions. The Round Table Meeting was held on ASEAN Fisheries Education Network and ASEAN-FEN+ for better exchange and cooperation among the members and universities.


In the signing ceremony of ASEAN-FEN MOU, Li Weidong, Deputy Director of OUC International Office said that after joining ASEAN-FEN+, OUC would cooperate with its members in student education, academic exchange and joint researches in the fields of aquaculture, fisheries and marine science, together with the new members of Hokkaido University, Japan, Chittagong University of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bangladesh, and Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. During the meeting, OUC delegation took part in the Round Table Meeting of ASEAN Fisheries Education Network and ASEAN-FEN+ about organizing meetings, website construction, key projects and intercollegiate cooperation. All the members welcomed OUC as a new member and hoped to see more of OUC in various programs as a role model in developing the education network especially the cooperation among universities of China and ASEAN.


Joining ASEAN-FEN+ opened a new channel for OUC to cooperate with ASEAN in Education, with more exchange and cooperation expected to raise the awareness of One Belt and One Road Initiative and make OUC voice more heard in ASEAN Aquaculture Education.

Founded in 2011, the ASEAN Aquaculture Education Network is committed to promote the development and integration in aquaculture education among 18 leading universities of aquaculture in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar, with OUC and other three universities joining ASEAN-FEN+ in its 6th annual meeting in 2016. Currently its activities range from organizing international aquaculture meetings on regular basis, to students mobility among the universities, joint education and training of students, and together starting EU Horizon 2020. OUC was invited to join ASEAN Aquaculture Education Network by Associate Professor Yeong Yik Sung, Secretary General of ASEAN Aquaculture Education Network and Prof. Patrick Sorgeloos from Gent University, Belgium, who is responsible for the Innovation Platform of European Aquaculture 

Science and Technology, when they visited OUC on May 12, 2016 for more exchange and cooperation with ASEAN and EU in aquaculture education.
