OUC Professor Kubin Wins 2016 China’s Friendship Award

Wolfgang Kubin recently won China’s Friendship Award as the Director of German Department of OUC School of Foreign Languages, and Guest Professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University.  Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli met with Prof.Kubin and 49 award winners on September 30, 2016.


Li congratulated the foreign experts for winning the awards. He said that foreign experts have been helping China introduce advanced technology and management experience, and have played a unique role in cultural and personal exchanges. Li said that China and the world should learn from each other’s rich experience and dynamic thinking for China’s modernization as well as the world peace and development. The Kubins attended the reception in the evening celebrating the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in the Great Hall of People at the invitation of Premier Li.

At the Friendship awarding ceremony in Zhongnanhai on September 29, Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai awarded the certificates to 50 winners from 18 countries who were selected from over 600,000 foreign experts in China. The Friendship Award is the top one of its kind set up by the Chinese Government to award the foreign experts working in China. 


Known as a sinologist, writer and translator of literary works, Prof.Kubin is also a member of German Translators Association and German Writers Association. His researches focuses on Chinese ancient literature, Chinese contemporary and modern literature, and history of Chinese thought.


OUC German Department of the School of Foreign Languages was founded on December 15, 2012, with Prof.Kubin taking the first dean. On March 8, 2013, Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung (German Academy for Language and literature) awarded Kubin Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Preis für Übersetzung, the highest award for translation in Germany.
