Delegation from TAMU visits OUC

President Yu Zhigang and Vice-President Wu Lixin of Ocean University of China (OUC) met with the delegation of Texas A&M University (TAMU) on October 19, 2015 at OUC’s Laoshan campus. Both sides had a discussion on how to further deepen and expand exchange and cooperation between the two institutions.

President Yu Zhigang recalled collaborations between OUC and TAMU during the past several decades and spoke highly of the academic achievements made in the collaborations between the two universities, particularly in the areas of faulty exchanges, joint Ph.D. program, and collaborative research.

“TAMU is OUC’s most important partner universities in the United States. I hope the cooperative relations between our two sides can be further deepened, and the scope of our cooperation can be further broadened,” President Yu said.

Vice President Wu Lixin briefed the TAMU guests on the collaborations in scientific research, saying that the two universities should further expand the collaborations in joint research. “In addition to the existing collaborative programs, there is a big potential in our collaboration in such areas as oil well exploration and ocean observation. Further more, we are willing to strengthen our collaborations in Marine geology and ocean engineering,” he said.

Dr. Jack Baldauf, executive associate dean of College of Geosciences at TAMU, echoed what both President Yu Zhigang and Vice President Wu Lixin said, saying that the two universities have laid a solid foundation for the joint graduate education and scientific research. “I hope that our two universities will intensify faculty and students exchange and promote joint scientific research by establishing a joint OUC-TAMU research center,” he said.

Participants from both sides also discussed issues concerning students exchange and cooperation in marine science and technology.

Representatives from Office for Science and Technology Administration, Office for Project 985 and Project 211, International Office and College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences were also present at the meeting
