Japanese Consul General Visits OUC

President Yu Zhigang meets with the Consul General Toyama Shigeru of the Consulate-General of Japan in Qingdao  


President Yu Zhigang of Ocean University of China (OUC) met with Consul General Toyama Shigeru of the Consulate-General of Japan in Qingdao on October 19, 2015 at OUC’s Laoshan Campus. Both sides had a discussion on how to further deepen and expand cultural, faculty and student exchanges and cooperation. 


“Japan and China are neighbors separated only by a body of water. Economic and trade, cultural, faculty and student exchanges between the two countries are very frequent”, Consul General Toyama Shigeru said, adding that it was necessary to promote Sino-Japanese exchanges and cooperation among  universities of the two countries. “OUC is not only well-known in China, but also exerts some leverage abroad”, he continued, saying that both sides could further enhance faculty and student exchanges, and the Consulate-General of Japan in Qingdao will continue to contribute to a broadened cooperative relationship with OUC.


On behalf of OUC, President Yu Zhigang welcomed Consul General Toyama Shigeru and gave an overview of OUC. He explained that OUC is a comprehensive university with particular strengths in oceanography and fisheries science. President Yu stressed that OUC attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges and has established sound cooperative relations with many Japanese education and research institutes. 


“We have also carried out productive cooperation in such aspects as academic exchanges and education. We hope that the Consulate-General of Japan in Qingdao will continue to give us support in expanding closer collaborations between OUC and Japanese universities as well as research institutions,” President Yu added.


Prof. Xiu Bin, the dean of College of Literal Arts, Journalism and Communication gave a brief introduction to the Research Center for Japanese Studies. Representatives from the International Office were also present at this meeting.
