Prof. YU Zhigang, President of the Ocean University of China (OUC), met with Prof. Sergey S. Ryzhkov, Rector of Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, and their delegation to sign a MOU on November 28, 2014 at the Laoshan Campus. Prof. LI Huajun, Vice President of OUC, presided over the signing ceremony.
According to the MOU, OUC and Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding will promote cooperation based on the principles of mutual benefit and common development in both science and education. The deal includes student, faculty, and research exchange programs, bilateral or multilateral academic conferences, seminars and other scientific activities, joint research and publications, as well as information exchange.
President YU expressed his warm welcome to Rector Ryzhkov and their delegation during his speech.
He said that Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, known widely for its aptitude in shipbuilding, is a top-notch university in Ukraine while OUC is one of the 39 key universities included in China’s “Project 985” with distinguished features in oceanography and fisheries and solid strengths in marine-related scientific research.
“Compared with your university, OUC has initiated its program of ocean engineering relatively lately,” he said, adding that China had made it clear that the development of a strong ocean country shall be taken as a national strategy and technology and industry in regard to ocean engineering should be highlighted in the national development plans.
President YU also said that OUC is vigorously promoting the advancement of ocean engineering disciplines and hopes to increase the disciplinary levels in related fields through cooperation with Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.
Rector Ryzhkov spoke highly of OUC’s educational standards and said he is very glad to work with OUC to carry out exchanges and cooperation. He also briefly introduced the Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.
“Makarov National University of Shipbuilding has attached great importance to cooperation with related universities and research institutes in China, which has proven fruitful so far,” he said.
He added that Makarov National University of Shipbuilding and OUC have shared common grounds in history and would have great potential for cooperation in such disciplines as ocean engineering.
He also suggested that the two parties take this MOU as an opportunity to form a fraternal relationship of cooperation, actively enhancing exchanges and cooperation and making joint efforts to improve the development of related academic disciplines of both universities.
During the meeting, Rector Ryzhkov presented some academic books published by Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding as a gift. The participants watched the promotional videos of both sides and had detailed discussions about concrete cooperation agendas.
Dr. Upolenzov, vice rector of scientific research, representatives from the international office and the teaching office of Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, and representatives and professors of the international office and college of engineering of OUC also attended the signing ceremony.
