Prof. Li Huajun, Vice President of Ocean University of China (OUC) , met at Laoshan campus on June 9, 2014, with Counselor Mary Anne Dehler, head of public affairs in the Canadian Embassy to China , to strengthen cooperation and academic exchanges.

After a brief introduction to OUC, Vice President Li gave an overview of the cooperation between OUC and the Canadians.

“OUC has established cooperative relationships with quite a few universities and research institutions in Canada,” he said.“I hope this visit from Counselor Mary Anne Dehler can surely further the cooperative ties and render greater results,” he continued.

Echoing Vice President Li, Counselor Dehler also expressed her willingness to vigorously promote the cooperation between OUC and relevant Canadian educational and research institutions.

In addition, Dr. James Manicom, who was also in the visiting delegation, briefly introduced his own research related to the Arctic.

“I am delighted to be here to conduct academic exchanges on polar research with the experts and scientists from OUC, and I hope the two sides can enhance mutual understanding to strengthen cooperation,” he said.

OUC enjoys excellent relations with Canadian universities and research institutions.

In March, 2014, Mr. Guy Saint-Jacques, Canadian Ambassador to China, was invited to deliver a lecture on Canada’s Arctic Priorities here. In March, 2013, the Accessible Arctic Exhibition, jointly organized by the Embassy of Canada to China, the Qingdao Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, and OUC was held at Laoshan Campus. Duplicates of the “Canadian Geographic” cover photos, as well as animated films about the Arctic, were shown during the exhibition, which was well-received.

The meeting was also attended by representatives and professors from the International Office and the School of Law and Political Science.
