U.S. Delegation Visits OUC

Prof. Dong Shuanglin, vice president of Ocean University of China (OUC), met with Dr. Joan Bennett, Vice President of New Brunswick campus, Rutgers University (RU), Prof. William Nierman with J. Craig Venter Institute, and Dr. Yu Jiujiang, a research fellow with Beltsville Agricultural Research Center under the U.S. Department of Agriculture on May 30, 2014.


At the meeting held at OUC’s Laoshan Campus, Vice President Dong extended his welcome to the visiting guests before he gave an overview of OUC by showing a video clip to all the meeting participants. Representatives from College of Fisheries, College of Life Science, College of Food Science and Engineering, as well as College of Physical and Environmental Oceanography of OUC, also brief the delegation on their latest research focuses. The three visiting guests gave a brief introduction to each of their own institutions.


Vice President Dong spoke highly of RU for their academic standards, scientific achievements, and worldwide reputation.


“A first-class research university in the world, Rutgers University provides almost all areas of study that OUC offers, which provides a strong basis for our mutual collaboration,” Vice President Dong said,adding their current visit would enhance mutual understanding between OUC and the related institutions in the U.S.


Vice President Dong also said that he wishes to send OUC students sponsored by the China Scholarship Council to study at RU for Master’s or Ph.D. degree.


A member of the Ivy League, Rutgers University (RU) is one of the top universities in the USA and a first-rate research university in the world. RU ranks 69 among all the universities by USNews in 2014, and 103 among universities in the world by TIMES from 2013 to 2014.
