President Wu Dexing of Ocean University of China (OUC) met with Prof. Mark A. Altabet, chair of Department of Estuarine and Ocean Sciences, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMassD), on May 10, 2013.They discussed possibilities of collaboration between OUC and UMassD, including joint education and research programs, student exchanges as well as mutual recognition of credit points.Prof. Mark A. Altabet is a key member of the Center for Innovation and Introducing Overseas Expertise in Marine Chemistry of OUC, and he is also one of the editorial board members of an international journal for studies of marine chemistry. His research interests include biogeochemical cycles of biogenic elements, stable isotope biogeochemistry and ecology, oceanic paleochemistry and paleoclimatology, as well as atmospheric CO2 and global warming.Particularly, he is an authority on nitrogen isotope marine biogeochemistry, with his research using natural variations in isotopic ratio. Having gained international prestige, Prof. Mark A. Altabet has been invited to gave talks at quite a few major international academic conferences.
