OUC Held the Third “Frontiers & Future” Postdoctoral Academic Festival and the 80th-Anniversary Events for Oceanography, Fisheries, and Geology

On October 13, Ocean University of China (OUC) held its Third “Frontiers & Future” Postdoctoral Academic Festival, together with a series of academic events marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of its oceanography, fisheries, and geology disciplines, at the Frontier Lecture Hall in the Marine Science and Technology Building. The festival, themed “Eight Decades of Ocean Endeavor, Innovating for the Future,” was jointly hosted by the Frontiers Science Center for Deep Ocean Multispheres and Earth System and the Office of Human Resources.

The festival featured thematic presentations on research findings and a poster discussion session with a buffet reception. The presentations addressed cutting-edge topics including polar sea-ice evolution and organic carbon burial, geochemical processes in sedimentary environments, marine isotope fractionation, aerosol radiative forcing, and marine heatwaves. Participants also held in-depth discussions on current topics in biogeochemistry and related interdisciplinary fields, including records of paleoceanographic change in the western Arctic Ocean and Antarctic ice-sheet evolution since the Last Deglaciation, characteristics of mesoscale convective systems during different phases of ENSO, controls on sulfur isotope fractionation in modern marine environments, nitrate reduction processes in mangrove sediments, and spaceborne lidar observations of aerosols.

More than 50 postdoctoral researchers, early-career faculty members, and students from Laoshan Laboratory, Shandong University, the First Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, and OUC attended the event.
