On October 19, the opening ceremony for the 2026 International Marine Summer Camp on Marine Sustainable Development and Mutual Learning among Civilizations was held at the Yushan Campus of Ocean University of China (OUC). Nearly 50 faculty members and students from 12 universities and research institutions in 10 countries gathered at OUC to participate in activities focused on ocean exploration and cultural exchange.
Wang Xuepeng, Vice President of OUC, noted in his remarks that marine sustainable development is a shared challenge facing humanity. Drawing on several of the university’s international cooperation platforms, including the International Alliance of Marine-related Institutions (IAMRI), the Sino-Thai Academic Center on Marine and Fishery Sciences, and the International Antarctic Institute (IAI), the camp aims to provide students from China and abroad with a platform for deepening their understanding of the ocean and promoting educational exchange. He expressed the hope that all participants would deepen their understanding and build consensus through learning and exchange, contributing their wisdom and strengths to marine sustainable development and the building of a maritime community with a shared future.
At the ceremony, faculty representatives from Kasetsart University in Thailand and the Federal University of ABC in Brazil, as well as a student representative from the University of Alaska in the United States, delivered remarks. They looked forward to using the program as an opportunity to broaden their horizons, strengthen friendships, and promote practical cooperation in more areas.
The 14-day summer camp will feature a variety of activities, including thematic academic lectures, research activities, off-campus industry visits, and Chinese cultural experiences. It will showcase China’s achievements in the sustainable use of marine resources and the development of an ecological civilization to participants from around the world, while further deepening educational cooperation between China and other countries and promoting deeper, more substantive people-to-people exchange and mutual learning among civilizations.
