Chairman Li Ming Attended World Maritime Equipment Conference 2026 and Conducted Field Visits in Fuzhou

From October 15 to 17, Li Ming, Chairman of the Ocean University of China (OUC) Council, led a delegation to Fuzhou to attend the World Maritime Equipment Conference 2026. He delivered remarks at “Green and Smart+: Innovation Report on Sustainable Marine Development,” one of the conference’s major events, and visited local universities and enterprises and met with alumni to advance cooperation between the university and Fuzhou.

On October 16, the World Maritime Equipment Conference 2026 opened in Fuzhou. Under the theme “Green, Smart and Collaborative: Navigating a Shared Blue Ocean,” the conference brought together cutting-edge technologies and industry expertise from across the global maritime equipment sector. On October 17, “Green and Smart+: Innovation Report on Sustainable Marine Development” was held as one of the conference’s major events.

In his remarks at the forum, Li Dejin, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People’s Congress, said that Fujian owed its origins and prosperity to the sea and was steadily advancing along the strategic path outlined by General Secretary Xi Jinping for strengthening the province’s marine sector. By pursuing innovation-driven development and green transformation in tandem, Fujian has in recent years emerged as a national leader in green marine industries such as offshore wind power and electric vessels. Centered on the theme “Green, Smart and Collaborative: Navigating a Shared Blue Ocean,” the forum explored the deep integration of green development and smart technologies, combining practical relevance with a forward-looking perspective on industry development. He invited participating experts and scholars to offer insights and recommendations on the green transformation and smart upgrading of Fujian’s marine economy, adding that Fujian would work openly with all parties to build a new ecosystem for green and smart maritime industries.

On behalf of OUC and the other organizers, Chairman Li Ming welcomed the attending leaders and guests. He noted that the ocean is a strategically important arena for high-quality development and that “Green and Smart+” has become a key driver of the marine industry’s transition toward higher-end, lower-carbon development. OUC has earnestly implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on education and strengthening China’s marine sector. With a mission to support the country’s marine endeavors and local economic and social development, the university has long been committed to innovation in marine science and technology, the cultivation of marine-related talent, and research on ocean development strategies. It has also vigorously advanced the application of research outcomes to support innovation and development in marine industries. Holding the forum in Fuzhou demonstrated how OUC was leveraging its strengths in marine disciplines and talent to provide targeted support for the high-quality development of the regional marine economy. He expressed the hope that interdisciplinary exchange at the forum would generate more actionable solutions for the green and smart transformation of marine sectors in Fujian and across China.

During his stay in Fuzhou, Chairman Li Ming led a delegation to Fuyao University of Science and Technology. The university’s president, Party secretary, and executive vice president accompanied the delegation during the visit. The two universities signed a strategic cooperation agreement and will jointly explore new approaches to coordinated development between a new-type research university and a high-level research university.

At Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, the university’s Party secretary and vice president accompanied the delegation during the visit. The two universities held friendly discussions and reached significant consensus on cooperation. They agreed to work together to make greater contributions to strengthening China’s education and marine sectors and advancing Fujian’s high-quality development.

At the Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Fujian Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., Chairman Li Ming and the delegation visited the shipyard’s history exhibition hall and received a briefing on its operations. The company’s chairman accompanied the delegation. The two sides agreed to leverage their respective strengths and enhance cooperation in marine equipment R&D, the application of research outcomes, and talent development, thereby jointly advancing high-quality development.

As part of the conference program, the delegation also visited major enterprises in Fujian, including CATL and Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co. Ltd., to learn about the latest industry developments and needs, as well as progress in the application of research outcomes, and to promote university-industry exchanges and cooperation.

During the visit, Chairman Li Ming and the delegation also met with alumni representatives in Fujian to learn about their work and hear their views and suggestions on the university’s development. He expressed the hope that alumni would continue to make full use of their strengths and resources, remain engaged with and supportive of their alma mater’s development, and contribute to national and regional development.
