On September 24, an Honorary Professorship Conferment Ceremony was held at Ocean University of China (OUC). Wang Houjie, Vice President of OUC, presented Professor Deborah Greaves, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a professor at the University of Oxford, with a certificate of appointment as an honorary professor.
In his remarks, Vice President Wang Houjie expressed his gratitude to Professor Greaves for accepting the honorary professorship at OUC. He noted that offshore renewable energy is an important research field for advancing China’s “dual-carbon” goals, and expressed the hope that Professor Greaves would bring leading international academic perspectives and research experience to OUC, injecting new impetus into the university’s talent development, scientific research, and international cooperation.
Professor Greaves reviewed her collaboration with the team led by OUC Professor Shi Hongda. She noted that the two sides had greatly promoted academic and cultural exchanges between China and the UK by jointly developing teaching programs and maintaining regular exchanges of faculty and students. The global energy transition currently faces multiple challenges, and international collaboration in offshore renewable energy is urgently needed. She expressed the hope that the appointment would provide an opportunity to further deepen practical collaboration with OUC and expand their areas of research.

Professor Liang Bingchen, Dean of the College of Engineering, introduced Professor Greaves’s academic profile. Student representatives pinned an OUC badge on Professor Greaves and presented her with flowers.
