Qingdao Science and Technology Innovation Conference Held, with OUC Securing Further Achievements

On September 8, the Qingdao Science and Technology Innovation Conference was held to commend the recipients of the 2025 Qingdao Science and Technology Awards. As the lead institution, Ocean University of China (OUC) received eight Qingdao Science and Technology Awards in 2025, including one International Science and Technology Cooperation Award—the only award in this category in Qingdao—two first prizes, and five second prizes. Professor Wang Houjie, Vice President of OUC, attended the conference on behalf of the university and congratulated the award recipients.

OUC’s award-winning individuals and projects were as follows. Professor ************* of Australia, who collaborated with Professor Wang Min’s team at the College of Marine Life Sciences, received the only Qingdao International Science and Technology Cooperation Award presented this year, marking the first time in nine years that OUC had received an award in this category.

The project “Novel Drug Discovery Based on Protein Degradation Mechanisms and Precision Synthesis Strategies,” led by Professor Qin Chong of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, won first prize of the Qingdao Natural Science Award, one of only five first prizes presented citywide. The project “Key Technologies and Applications for High-Resolution Exploration of Shallow Sub-Seafloor Strata in the Deep Sea,” led by Professor Xing Lei of the College of Marine Geo-sciences, won first prize in the Qingdao Science and Technology Progress Award.

Three projects led by professors at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering each won a second prize in the Qingdao Natural Science Award: “Efficient Treatment and Resource Recovery of Effluent from Industrial Seawater Farming,” led by Professor Guo Liang; “Cross-scale Mechanisms of Hazard Evolution in Deep-Sea Sediments under Extreme Loading,” led by Professor Guo Xingsen; and “Extreme Weather and Climate and Their Interactions with the Atmospheric Environment,” led by Professor Gao Yang.

Two projects won second prizes in the Qingdao Science and Technology Progress Award: “Modern Bioengineering Technologies for the Targeted Production of Algae Functional Sugars and Their Industrial Applications,” led by Professor Mou Haijin of the College of Food Science and Engineering; and “Development and Application of Key Technologies to Ensure Seafood Safety with Respect to Algal Toxins,” led by Professor Li Aifeng of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering.
