On August 14, a delegation led by Professor Qin Si Zhao, President of Lingnan University, visited Ocean University of China (OUC). The delegation included Associate Professor Jonathan Fong, Associate Dean of the Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Professor Li Ming, Chairman of the OUC Council, met with the guests at the Laoshan Campus. The two sides held talks on expanding cooperation between the two universities.
Chairman Li Ming welcomed Professor Qin Si Zhao and briefly outlined OUC’s development and its exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong. He noted that OUC places great importance on engagement with Hong Kong and is actively advancing the development of the Ocean University of China Hong Kong Institute of Innovation. He expressed the hope that OUC and Lingnan University would deepen and broaden their partnership by strengthening faculty and student exchanges, jointly training students, and pursuing collaborative research and innovation in fields such as marine ecology, data science, and artificial intelligence. Through these efforts, he added, the two universities could leverage their complementary strengths, pursue shared development, and contribute to the country’s strategic priorities.
President Qin Si Zhao thanked OUC for its warm hospitality and gave an overview of the recent development and distinctive strengths of Lingnan University. He noted that cooperation between the two universities rests on a solid foundation and expressed the hope that they would further strengthen academic exchanges in marine life conservation, marine data, artificial intelligence, and liberal arts education; explore joint postgraduate training; and achieve tangible results through substantive cooperation.
The delegation toured OUC’s History Museum. Associate Professor Jonathan Fong also participated in academic exchanges at the Fang Zongxi Center for Marine Evo-Devo.
