On September 1, Professor Alison Fell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Liverpool, visited Ocean University of China (OUC). Professor Zhang Junfeng, President of OUC, met with Professor Fell on the Laoshan Campus.
President Zhang welcomed Professor Fell and gave a brief overview of OUC’s history, disciplinary strengths, and international engagement. He noted that OUC and the University of Liverpool share a long history of cooperation. Since signing a memorandum of understanding in 2010, the two universities have maintained sustained and practical collaboration in joint doctoral training through dual-degree programs, academic exchanges, and joint research. In 2026, the undergraduate law program jointly offered by the two universities was approved by the Ministry of Education as a Sino-foreign cooperative education program and admitted its first cohort of students. He expressed the hope that the two universities would jointly develop high-quality courses, share educational resources, maintain rigorous academic standards, and build the program into a model of Sino-foreign cooperative education. He also called for broader exchanges and cooperation in the humanities and social sciences, as well as in marine-related fields, with a view to delivering more substantive outcomes.
Professor Fell thanked OUC for its warm welcome and outlined the academic structure and research strengths of the University of Liverpool and its Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She noted that the University of Liverpool attaches great importance to its partnership with OUC and was delighted that the undergraduate law program had received approval and successfully admitted its first cohort. She looked forward to closer exchanges and deeper cooperation between the two universities, expressing the hope that they would work together to ensure the success of the law program, draw on their respective academic strengths, and explore further opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, thereby pursuing mutual benefit and shared development.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed potential cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, academic cooperation, and talent development.
