OUC’s Research Achievement Won Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

From March 11 to 15, the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva was held. The project “In-situ monitoring technology and equipment for environmental impact of deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining”, led by Professor Jia Yonggang of Ocean University of China (OUC), won a Gold Medal at the Exhibition, demonstrating China’s innovative strength in technologies for monitoring the environmental impacts of deep-sea mining.

Focusing on the interdisciplinary area of deep-sea resource development and marine environmental monitoring, the project addresses environmental issues that may arise during deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining, including sediment disturbance, increased water turbidity, and ecological impacts. The team successfully developed in-situ monitoring technology and a set of equipment capable of real-time, in-situ, multi-parameter monitoring of the impacts of deep-sea mining activities on the marine ecological environment. The achievement fills a domestic technological gap in this field, providing key technical support for deep-sea resource development.

Established in 1973, the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is known for its rigorous evaluation process and professional standards, it is recognized as one of the world’s three leading invention exhibitions and serves as an important international platform for inventors to showcase their achievements and promote the transformation of innovation outcomes into practical applications.
