Recently, the article “Deep-Sea Economy: Construction Foundation, Problems Confronted and Development Path”, co-authored by Professor Han Limin and Associate Professor Liang Shuo from the College of Management at Ocean University of China (OUC), was reprinted in full in Issue 1, 2026 of Xinhua Digest. The article systematically discusses the significance of the deep sea as both a new space for China’ s economic development and a new field of international competition. China enjoys abundant deep-sea resources, a solid foundation in science and technology, and an emerging industrial base. However, the development of China’s deep-sea economy still faces challenges such as insufficient technological innovation capabilities, incomplete industrial chain layout, fierce international competition, and intensified external technological blockades. In response, the authors suggested five development paths: enhancing innovation capabilities, adopting classified measures to promote industrial development, exploring integrated development models, improving the guarantee system, and actively participating in international governance of the deep sea. The full-text reprinting of the paper in Xinhua Digest, China’s top-tier authoritative journal, not only represents a strong affirmation of the authors’ academic achievements but also highlights OUC’s research strength and academic influence in marine development and management.
