
On June 28, the Symposium on Maritime Culture and Chinese Civilization was held at OUC. The symposium was hosted by OUC and organized by the Research Center on Maritime Culture and Chinese Civilization.

Nearly one hundred experts and scholars from more than 30 universities and research institutes attended the symposium. Prof. Zhang Junfeng, President of OUC, addressed the symposium. In his address, he noted that the university will thoroughly implement the important instructions contained in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply letter. With the guidance of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and the strong support of relevant provincial and municipal departments, OUC will further improve the operational mechanism of the Research Center on Maritime Culture and Chinese Civilization, deepen academic research on maritime culture, strengthen its core research teams, and strive to build the Center into a national leading and internationally renowned research institute.
The Research Center on Maritime Culture and Chinese Civilization is jointly established by the Publicity Department of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, OUC, and Qingdao Publishing Group. With Xi Jinping Thought on Culture as its fundamental guidance, the Center thoroughly implements the important instructions contained in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply letter to all OUC faculty and students, focusing on the historical status and contemporary significance of maritime civilization within the broader lineage of Chinese civilization. The Center brings together nearly 50 interdisciplinary experts and is committed to building a state-level research institute on studies of maritime culture and Chinese civilization.
