On August 25, the 2025 annual meeting of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Food Processing and Safety Control (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) was held in Qingdao. 

Prof. Wang Houjie, Vice President of OUC, extended a warm welcome to the members of the Academic Committee attending the meeting. He noted that the Laboratory has consistently targeted major national needs and has produced a series of important achievements in areas such as the high-value utilization of marine biological resources and quality control in food processing, generating notable economic and social benefits and making significant contributions to ensuring national food security and promoting the high-quality development of the food industry. He added that Ocean University of China will continue to provide full support for the Laboratory development and will work hand in hand with Dalian Polytechnic University and Qingdao Bright Moon Seaweed Group to build the Laboratory into an international innovative hub for marine food science and technology. He expressed the hope that experts will continue to support the Laboratory’s development, offer valuable suggestions, and jointly make new and greater contributions to building China into a leading country in education, health, and marine-related sectors. 

Chairman Zhang Guofang of Qingdao Bright Moon Seaweed Group remarked that the Laboratory serves as a powerful engine for the company’s development. Leveraging the Laboratory’s strengths in scientific and technological innovation and talent, Qingdao Bright Moon Seaweed Group has achieved leapfrog development, effectively driven the upgrading of the functional health food and biopharmaceutical industries, and injected strong impetus into the company’s innovation-driven growth. He stated that the Group will further deepen its coordinated development with the Laboratory, strengthen research on key technologies, and continuously enhance the core competitiveness of China’s marine food industry.

The representative of the laboratory’s supervisory authority and Deputy Director of the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, Zhang Donghua, remarked that as the country’s only state key laboratory in the field of marine food, the Laboratory is an important pillar for building a strong maritime province and a strong maritime city. He noted that Qingdao will thoroughly implement the important instructions delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection tour of Shandong Province, give full play to the role of an active and effective government, and improve supporting policies so that the Laboratory can better serve major national strategic tasks. The city will promote deeper integration between scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, ensuring the Laboratory makes greater contributions to building a strong maritime province and a strong maritime city, as well as to high-quality economic and social development.
