Vice-Chancellor Rufus Black of the University of Tasmania Visited OUC

On June 12, Prof. Rufus Black, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Tasmania (UTAS), led a delegation to Ocean University of China (OUC). Vice President Liu Yong met with the guests, and discussions were held on deepening partnership.

Prof. Liu Yong noted that at OUC’s centennial ceremony last October, Vice-Chancellor Rufus Black, as the representative of OUC’s global partners, delivered an impressive speech. OUC and UTAS share a longstanding cooperation and a profound friendship. The joint education program in marine science established in 2014 has made significant progress in nurturing innovative talent with multidisciplinary expertise, a great sense of responsibility and cross-cultural communication skills. Prof. Liu expressed his hope that both sides would further practical cooperation in marine science and other areas, work for win-win results and advance joint development.

Vice-Chancellor Rufus Black shared updates on the recent developments at UTAS. He highlighted that with a solid collaborative foundation, this visit would offer an opportunity to promote closer cooperation in areas such as faculty exchanges and student visits. Together, the two universities seek to advance marine ecological conservation, systematic governance, and sustainable development.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the College of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, where they attended a group meeting with the faculty and student representatives. The two sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on collaborative education program, joint training, and student exchanges. The delegation affirmed the students’ outstanding performances and encouraged them to take full advantage of the high-quality educational resources provided by both universities.
