From October 26 to 27, the 4th Forum on Education Policy from a Global Perspective, organized by Ocean University of China (OUC), was held in Qingdao under the theme “Education Policy, Education Governance, and New Quality Productive Forces”. Invited guests included Wang Huanliang, Vice President of the Higher Education Science Institute of Shandong Province, Sun Zuxing, Vice President of the Shandong Education Association for International Exchange, and Hu Qinxiao, Vice Chair of the Qingdao University Council. Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC, addressed the opening ceremony.
Liu Yong highlighted that President Xi Jinping’s reply letter to the OUC community urged the university to further focus on original and pioneering research to make breakthroughs in marine science and technology, and nurture more outstanding talent with a strong commitment to the marine field. Liu emphasized that we should earnestly study and implement the important guidelines in President Xi’s letter, and engage in discussions to spark far-sighted and innovative ideas, making more contributions to building a leading nation in education and a strong maritime country.
Wang Huanliang shared profound insights into the international exchanges and cooperation in education policy and management, while Sun Zuxing underscored the importance of further promoting international cooperation within Shandong’s education system. Hu Qinxiao expressed the hope for deepening academic collaboration between the two universities in the field of education policy.
The forum featured keynote speeches by prominent experts, including Professor Zhao Juming from the School of Education at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Timothy Teo from the Faculty of Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chief Scientist Cheng Xing from MyCOS, and Dr. Wang Yonggang, Associate Vice President for China & East Asia Affairs at the University of Arizona. Their topics included “China’s Higher Education in Times of Great Change”, “Research on AI in Education: Current Status and Future Directions”, “Rule of Law Research in Higher Education Governance: International Experience and Chinese Practice”, and “Opportunities/Risks of AI in Higher Education & Governance of AI Technology”.
Professor Zhu Qihua from Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Liu Meina from George Washington University, Liu Wenjun from Toyo University, Vice President Dai Wanzhen of the Hong Kong Public Administration Association, Professor Nick Letch from AEMG Group, Professor Dong Yuqi from Shanghai Normal University, Professor Zhao Changlin from Dezhou University, Professor Sun Baicai from Qingdao University, Professor Chen Kaiquan and Professor Zhan Ning from OUC, shared insights on topics such as the digital transformation of higher education, the development and innovation of higher education in the AI era, collaborative practices and policies integrating education, industry, and research in Japanese and American universities, and new quality productive forces and reforms in higher education.
