From October 25 to 27, in celebration of OUC’s 100th anniversary, the 10th Symposium on Bio-Organic Geochemistry, co-organized by OUC, was held in Qingdao. Prof. Wu Lixin, Director of Laoshan Laboratory and Vice President of OUC; Academician Dai Minhan from Xiamen University; and Academician Xie Shucheng from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), attended the opening ceremony. Wang Houjie, Vice President of OUC, presided over the opening ceremony.
In his address, Academician Wu Lixin noted that China’s marine science is facing unprecedented development opportunities. In his reply letter to the OUC community, President Xi Jinping urged the university to “further focus on original and pioneering research for making breakthroughs in marine science and technology, and nurture more outstanding talent with a strong commitment to the marine field. It is hoped that the university will make greater contributions to building China into a leading country in education and a strong maritime country”. Wu highlighted that the OUC community should earnestly study, understand, and implement the important guidelines from President Xi’s reply letter, aiming to further enhance China’s international influence in ocean and earth sciences research.
Wang Houjie noted that this symposium was a distinctive academic event in the field of earth sciences, providing a key platform for academic exchanges.
The symposium attracted more than 300 experts, scholars, and students from over 80 universities and research institutions from home and abroad. 12 internationally renowned experts were invited to deliver keynote speeches. The symposium held five parallel sessions, presenting over 120 reports and 50 posters.
