On October 24, upon the 100th anniversary of OUC, China-ASEAN Research and Academic Collaboration Forum on Fisheries, Aquaculture and Blue Economy 2024 was held in Qingdao. More than 60 presidents, vice presidents and representatives from 23 universities in 8 ASEAN countries, including Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, participated in the forum. Lin Xusheng, Vice President of OUC, and Mohd Effendy Abd. Wahid, Chairman of the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network, attended the forum and delivered speeches.
Themed “China-ASEAN: Strengthening Marine Economic Cooperation to Promote Global Development”, this forum is jointly organized by OUC and the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN). It aims to deepen collaboration between China and ASEAN countries in the fields of marine economy and fisheries education, build a high-level academic exchange platform, and promote bilateral marine economic cooperation and coordinated development of science, education and technology.
Prof. Jiao Nianzhi, Academician of Chinese Academy of Science and Chief Scientist of Global-ONCE, along with 8 representatives from ASEAN universities delivered keynote reports on the cooperation and development of ASEAN-FEN. In the panel discussion session, representatives had in-depth discussions on deepening the sustainable development partnership of China-ASEAN fisheries, aquaculture and blue economy, and further promoting win-win cooperation and resource sharing between China and ASEAN countries in fisheries education.
The forum promoted the cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in the field of blue economy, and marine science and technology. As an important step to implement the national strategy of Vision and Proposed Actions Outlined on Jointly Building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, it has played an important role in advancing the building of a China-ASEAN community.
