From October 23 to 24, the International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application of Future Ocean 2024 was held in Qingdao. The conference was guided by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Shandong Province, hosted by the Center for School Planning and Construction Development of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education of Shandong Province, and organized by OUC. Nearly 600 people from universities, research institutes and enterprises of nearly 20 countries participated in the conference. Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC, attended the conference and delivered a speech.
Liu Yong highlighted that the ocean nurtures life and contains abundant resources. The global ocean plays an essential role in the sustainable development of humanity, and promises a shared future for humanity. Currently, we are faced with a series of prominent challenges in global ocean security, development, and governance. To tackle the challenges, we must strengthen international cooperation, actively build a maritime community with a shared future, and work together to promote sustainable development of the ocean. With a focus on building new quality productive forces from a global ocean perspective, this conference aims to stimulate the vitality of marine scientific and technological innovation through in-depth integration of industry, education, research, and application, promote the transformation and upgrading of the marine industry, and inject new impetus into the high-quality and sustainable development of the marine economy.
Lin Xiaopei, Dean of the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, presided over the conference. The conference had three sub-forums on physical oceanography and marine information technology, development and protection of aquatic resources, and environmental pollution control and ecological conservation. Participants engaged in discussions about issues such as climate change, detection and protection of marine environment, marine information transmission and processing, development and protection of marine biological resources, development and utilization of fishery resources, new models and technologies of aquaculture, and prevention and control of aquatic animal diseases.
