On October 23, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Ocean University of China (OUC), the 2024 UK University Day and the 9th Sino-British Academic Symposium was held. The opening ceremony featured speeches by Steven McGuire, Vice-Chancellor of the University of East Anglia, and Wang Xuepeng, Vice President of OUC.
Wang Xuepeng reviewed the progress of the collaboration between the two universities in talent cultivation and research cooperation.
In his speech, Steven McGuire congratulated OUC on its centennial anniversary and expressed his wishes for the success of the 2024 UK University Day and the 9th Sino-British Academic Symposium.
Gao Huiwang, Director of the Sino-British Joint Research Center, presided over the opening ceremony. With the theme “Enhancing Multidisciplinary Exchange and Cooperation to Support Global Marine Environmental Governance”, the symposium invited 16 experts from renowned universities home and abroad to deliver academic reports, with over 60 scholars, faculty members and students participating in the symposium.
Prior to the symposium, Wang Xuepeng met with Steven McGuire and his delegation. The two sides signed a “3+1” agreement on joint undergraduate and graduate education.
On the same day, the 2024 UK University Day event was held, with representatives from four British partner universities—University of East Anglia, Newcastle University, Heriot-Watt University, and University of Portsmouth—offering enrollment consultations and presentations on joint talent training programs.
A workshop on artificial intelligence and virtual reality was held in parallel. Professor Stephen Laycock from the School of Computing at the University of East Anglia delivered a keynote report titled “Graphics Processing Unit: from Computer Games to Artificial Intelligence”.
