OUC and the Arctic and Antarctic Institute of the Russian Federation Held a Meeting on Polar Science

On April 16, 2024, OUC and the Arctic and Antarctic Institute of the Russian Federation (AARI) held an online meeting to promote the cooperation in scientific research, expedition, and education of polar and marine sciences. 


Vice President Liu Yong pointed out in his speech that OUC and AARI share common research interests, and there is a wide space for further cooperation. Since 2024 is the 100th anniversary of OUC and the 40th anniversary of China’s polar expedition, it is expected that this meeting could further promote cooperation in polar research, academic exchanges and education. Prof. Alexander Makarov, Director of AARI expressed his hope to strengthen academic exchanges, carry out cooperative research and achieve fruitful outcomes. 


Scientists from the two sides had in-depth exchanges about physical oceanography, air-ice-sea interaction, remote sensing of sea ice and biological oceanography. The meeting reached a consensus on promoting the establishment of a mechanism for regular interaction and cooperative research institution.
