Recently, a research team led by Prof. Zhang Shaoqing from the Frontier Science Center of Deep Ocean Multispheres and Earth System (OUC) has successfully developed a series of coupled Earth system models based on the newly developed Sunway heterogeneous-architecture supercomputer in collaboration with Tsinghua University/National Supercomputing Centre in Wuxi and other institutions such as the University of Science and Technology of China. The research result was published by National Science Review under the title “Coupled Earth System Model for Cloud and Sub-Mesoscale Resolution on Sunway Heterogeneous-architecture Computers”.
The Model is a scientific research platform that integrates the results of observation and analysis and theoretical research to promote the development of Earth science. It is also a basic application platform that exports the results of basic scientific research in Earth science and provides environmental safety and security services for social and economic construction and military construction. The research team has introduced and developed a new ocean grid system that makes it possible to develop high-resolution coupled models at the kilometre-scale with continuously increasing resolution, providing solution to the problem of high-resolution coupling integral instability.
This series of high-resolution coupled Earth system models can meet the needs of multi-scale Earth system research, laying a solid foundation for the rapid advancement of the This research is supported by the National Key Research and Development Programme of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
