OUC Made New Progress in the Composition and Tectonic System of the Earth's Early Continental Crust

Recently, Prof. Li Sanzhong’s team from OUC’s College of Marine Geosciences published its latest research entitled “I-type and S-type granites in the Earth's earliest continental crust on Communications Earth & Environment” in Communications Earth & Environment.

The team conducted the world’s first study on the source rock type of the Jack Hills zircon, based on big data analysis and artificial intelligence. The result shows that an active capping system similar to the present plate tectonics was initiated 4 billion years ago.

This publication is another important research progress made by the team in Precambrian geology. It was the result of collaboration among scholars from OUC, Monash University and the Natural History Museum of UK.
