The Japanese Society of Fisheries Oceanography (JSFO) has recently announced the winner of the 27th JSFO Uda Award. Prof Tian Yongjun from OUC’s College of Fisheries, became the first non-Japanese scientist to win this award.

JSFO is a key academic organization that specializes in fisheries oceanography, with significant international influence. Established in 1995, the JSFO Uda Award was named after the famous Japanese oceanographer and meteorologist Uda Michitaka (1905-1982). Each year, this award honors an “academic leader who has achieved remarkable results in fisheries oceanography and related fields, or who has made significant contributions in education, academic promotion and technical support.” Since its inception, 26 scientists have received the award. Prof. Tian Yongjun was granted the award for his work Effects of regime shift on long-term variability of fish communities in the Northwest Pacific. JSFO spoke highly of Prof Tian’s innovation in the response mechanism of long-term variability of fish communities in the Northwest Pacific, and fully recognized his contributions to promoting academic exchanges between China and Japan.
