The 8th International Oyster Symposium Held in Qingdao


On November 6, 2019, the 8th International Oyster Symposium, co-sponsored by Ocean University of China (OUC) and World Oyster Society and co-organized by Rushan Municipal government and Chinese Society for Oceanology and Limnology, was held in Qingdao with the theme of Sustainable Development of the Oyster Industry and Protection of Germplasm Resources.


Prof. Yu Zhigang, President of Ocean University of China, along with leaders and top experts from the field attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. Prof. Li Qi, Dean of the College of Fisheries of OUC, moderated the ceremony. A total of more than 300 scholars, administrative personnel and business representatives in the field from all over the world attended the symposium. 


The symposium consisted of 7 sessions, with 38 experts delivering reports. Topics such as oyster genetic breeding, aquacultural technology, immunity and food safety were covered. Exchanges and discussions among experts promoted cooperation in the field, contributing to the academic research of oysters and the development of aquacultural industry of the world.
