OUC Students Awarded Gold Medal in iGEM

From October 31 to November 4, 2019, the final of the 15th International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) was held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The OUC-China team, consisted of 10 undergraduates from Ocean University of China (OUC), won the gold medal for the fourth consecutive year.

Members of the team are from the College of Marine Life Sciences, the College of Fisheries and the School of Mathematical Sciences. With the support of the Research and Innovation Laboratory of the College of Marine Life Sciences and under the guidance of instructors, the team selected its research topic and conducted research, fully leveraging the knowledge background and academic strengths of each student.

Building on the success of last year, the OUC-China team developed a new science popularization comic book for synthetic biology, adding to the fun of science popularization. The team also developed a VR along with mini-lab games, making it possible for people to experience scientific research in a virtual synthetic biology laboratory. The Ribo-fold game that the team developed will make more non-professionals understand the significance of biology.
