OUC delegation visits Heriot-Watt University, University of Edinburgh and University of Hull

UC Vice President Li Weiran and HWU Assistant Principal Ruth Moir sign MOU 


During 24-27 of April, 2017, OUC Vice President Li Weiran visited Heriot-Watt University, University of Edinburgh and University of Hull in UK for cooperation. The delegation visited the relevant labs on teaching and research before meeting the OUC graduates who were there for further study. The OUC delegation was composed of the leaders of the OUC Graduate School, College of Engineering, College of Information Science and Engineering, and College of International Education. 


In Heriot-University, Assistant Principal Ruth Moir met with Vice President Li. They reviewed HWU’s three visits to OUC since November, 2016 and the cooperation history between two universities. Li introduced OUC strategy of internationalization and upcoming launch of Dual World-Class construction (world-class university and world-class academic programs). According to Li, Qingdao Government supports OUC in establishing its new campus in Huangdao District, substantially backing OUC Dual World-Class construction and internationalization. With HWU leading the world in engineering and computer science, an agreement was reached on the all-round and multi-level cooperation in computer science and marine engineering, paving the way for the future Sino-UK projects and agencies of joint education to be approved by the Ministry of Education. Li and Moir signed the MOU on behalf of their universities.


The deans and professors of HWU College of Computer Science and College of Engineering were at the meeting, together with the Director of the International Office. Both parties discussed the model of cooperation and curriculum docking. After the meeting, OUC delegation visited the Robot Laboratory of the College of Mathematics and Computer and watched experiment of man-machine interaction.


OUC delegation visits Flowave Center Laboratory in University of Edinburgh 


OUC delegation also visited Flowave Center of University of Edinburgh which tops the world in marine energy research. The visit and meeting this time shed light on the construction of the advanced Laboratory for Marine Energy in OUC New Campus.


Alan Speight, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University of Hull 

awards OUC Vice President Li the certificate of Key Partner for Academic Cooperation  


In the University of Hull, Li was received by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Alan Speight, Director of the International Office, Dean of the Business School, professors on computer and experts on environmental policy. Located at the coastal city of Hull in UK, the University of Hull is one of the main partners of OUC HND program due to the similar climate and urban environment. The two universities have a great prospect in cooperation, sharing a lot in the majors offered. Alan awarded OUC the certificate of Key Partner for Academic Cooperation, saying that UH will strengthen the cooperation with OUC in HND and give more support to students with regard to language learning and learning methodologies on condition that the teaching quality is ensured. Both parties expressed the intention for academic exchange and cooperation in computer and ocean engineering. Invited to the meeting was Liang Ruizhe who graduated from HND program of OUC College of International Education.



i also visited Cai Xiaoxu, OUC graduate of computer science and full scholarship winner of the University of Portsmouth. Asking about Cai’s study, research and life in UP, Li encouraged him to work hard in spite of the difficulty and hoped that he could keep contact with his alma mater.
