On April 13, 2017, the 4-member delegation of Thailand Kasetsart University visited OUC, headed by President Chongrak Wachrinrat. OUC President Yu Zhigang met with the guests and signed the cooperation agreement in Shengli Building of OUC Yushan Campus. Yu exchanged ideas with the guests on the all-round cooperation, focusing on the establishment of the Research and Education Center for Marine and Aquatic Technology Center in Thailand.

President Yu expressed his warm welcome to Kasetsart delegation before introducing OUC campuses and marine-related colleges. After reviewing China-ASEAN Fisheries Education Network President Forum concluded a day ago, He stressed that more bilateral cooperation were to be launched on the basis of ASEAN FEN, raising two points regarding the Research and Education Center currently under joint construction. First, education of international students and the research cooperation between professors of the two universities are expected to be inseparably interconnected and complement each other. Second, to ensure the quantity and quality of the students. For academic master’s degree, all kinds of scholarships, particularly China-ASEAN Maritime Silk Road Scholarship, could be adopted to draw the top candidates. As to the candidates for the professional master’s degree, roadmaps are to be worked out reflecting the common visions and to the interests of both parties, with more alternatives from OUC Sanya Graduate School and OUC Sanya Research Institute both under construction in Hainan, a favorable geographical location.

President Wachrinrat expressed his gratitude for being invited to China-ASEAN FEN President Forum hosted by OUC, speaking highly of OUC standing and achievement in the world fisheries before introducing the history and key disciplines of Kasetsart University. After the launching of an all-round cooperation between OUC and Kasetsart, he is very confident about the future cooperation and more fruitful exchanges in fisheries between the two universities, both at the highest education level in fisheries of two countries.

Research focuses for potential cooperation were introduced by Li Qi, Dean of OUC College of Fisheries, Wang Min, Deputy Dean of College of Marine Life Sciences, and Liang Xingguo, Deputy Dean of Food Science and Engineering. Prof. Tang Qingjuan, Deputy Director of OUC International Office introduced the construction model and education schemes of the Research and Education Center for Marine and Aquatic Technology. Song Wenhong, Director of the International Office chaired the meeting. Also present at the meeting were Dean Shettapong Meksumpun and Deputy Deans of Wanwimol Klaypradit and Kriengkrai Satapornvanit from Kasetsart.

In the panel discussion in the afternoon, the scheme of the Research and Education Center for Marine and Aquatic Technology was further reviewed and improved by the representatives from Kasetsart University and OUC International Office, Graduate School, Colleges of International Education, Fisheries, Food Science and Engineering, as well as Medicine and Pharmacy.

It is reported that the Sino-Thai Center for Marine and Aquatic Technology will be put into operation in 2017 to shore up the fisheries cooperation between the two countries. It will be the first overseas institution of OUC for ASEAN students by sharing the resources in the backdrop of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
