President Yu Zhigang grants certificate to Prof. Ittekkot
On December 19th, 2016, ceremony was held in OUC Laoshan Library to appoint Professor Venu Ittekkot, Former Director of Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) Bremen, as OUC Advisory Professor. President Yu Zhigang granted the certificate to Prof. Ittekkot.
President Yu thanked Prof. Ittekkot for being OUC advisory professor. He said that Prof. Ittekkot is well connected with the international communities as a world renowned biogeochemist and a social activist in marine circle, experienced in international organizations and multilateral cooperation. As an old friend of OUC, Prof. Ittekkot has greatly contributed to the exchange and cooperation between OUC and marine-related universities and research institutes in Germany as well as the internationalization of OUC. Prof. Ittellot will definitely play a key role in implementing OUC strategy of internationalization after he joined OUC.
Prof. Ittekkot said it was his honor to be appointed as OUC Advisory Professor and he would be committed to promoting the top-level disciplines of OUC and its exchange and cooperation with the countries of the Belt and Road initiative.
Following the appointment ceremony, Prof. Ittekkot delivered a report titled Capacity Development Initiative: the International Context and the New Opportunities, introducing the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative especially the marine development and major international cooperation projects underway in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean Rim. He expected OUC to bring out its best in marine research and education, and take the historical opportunity of setting up its New Campus in the West Coast by planning against the rainy days and making as early as possible OUC strategy of international development. Prof. Ittekkot answered the questions after making the report.
The meeting and ceremony were chaired respectively by Vice President Li Huajun and HR Director Fan Qiwei. International Director Song Wenhong shared Prof. Ittekkot’s profile.
