OUC signs MOU with Kasetsart University

OUC Vice President Li Huajun visited Kasetsart University at the invitation on November 1, 2016. Discussions were made at the meeting about establishing Sino-Thai Development Center for Research and Education in Marine and Fishery Sciences. Ceremony was held for signing the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the two universities. 


President Chongrak Wachrinrat of Kasetsart University met with OUC delegation and expressed his hope for more exchange and cooperation in fields other than aquaculture between the two universities after the MOU was signed. He pointed out that the two universities have a great prospect in mutual cooperation with OUC marine and fishery sciences ranking the first in China and Kasetsart also the top in fishery in Thailand. 


Li Huajun said he was very glad to visit Kasetsart University and conveyed the best wishes from OUC President Yu Zhigang. He said that Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai once spoke highly of the cooperation between the two universities when he visited OUC recently. The past years have witnessed the frequent exchange in fishery and food science as well as in education of students. Both universities take the strategic opportunity of One Belt One Road Initiative to jointly establish the Sino-Thai Development Center for Research and Education in Marine and Fishery Sciences --- a substantial step in working with ASEAN Education Network in marine and fishery sciences. With a number of potential projects ahead, the two universities are expected to have more cooperation for a strategic win-win outcome.


Consul Zhou Hua from the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok was present at the meeting and contributed his professional idea on the mutual cooperation in science and technology. He said that both parties are supposed to substantiate the cooperation in such areas as science and technology, coauthoring the publications and patent application in many prospective fields of food science, health products, biotechnology, fishery, and plant-cultivation equipment.


Prof. Suriyan Tunkijjanukij, former Dean of Fishery College of Kasetsart University, reviewed the past cooperation between the two universities and looked forward to the brighter prospect. Song Wenhong, Director of OUC International Office introduced the disciplines and majors offered at OUC as well as the current situation and visions of OUC international cooperation. Agreement was reached between Kasetsart University and OUC delegates of Guan Changlong, Dean of College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Li Qi, Dean of Fishery College, and Xue Changhu, Dean of College of Food Science and Engineeringon, about the problems and steps to establish the Sino-Thai Development Center for Research and Education in Marine and Fishery Sciences. Detailed steps were also discussed about the mutual visits of faculty and students, exchange of students and how to start joint researches in the fields of marine, fishery and food sciences. It is a successful visit. 


On the sidelines of his visit in Thailand, Li Huajun also met with Zhu Wenxi, Office Head of IOC/UNESCO Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC) and exchanged ideas on the common issues.
