Global Economy & Governance Conference convened at OUC    


Global Economy & Governance Conference was held by OUC School of Economics at Laoshan Campus Library. OUC President Yu Zhigang was present at the meeting. 


President Yu expressed his welcome to the experts home and abroad, saying that the current world economy is undergoing a slow recovery and the global environment is very complicated. With China’s economy entering a new normal, it is time for scholars and society to do research on many theoretical and practical issues. This meeting covers such areas as the major theoretical and strategic problems in addition to case studies and exploring the realistic problems. He believed that the discussion and exchange would promote the research in economy and governance to fuel the world economic development.


Zhao Xin, Dean of School of Economics introduced the School and hoped that effective approaches could be found in the development of environmental finance.


The opening ceremony was followed by the keynote speeches. Academician Liviu-Lucian Albu from Romanian Academy of Social Sciences and Director of Romania Research Institute for Economic Forecasts compared the economic characteristics among EU, USA and China and analyzed the global situation of the economic development. Prof.Jakob de Haan from Faculty and Economics, University of Groningen, and Director of Dutch Central Bank Research Institute said that it was necessary for countries to innovate the monetary policies. Prof.Don Lien from University of Texas at San Antonio, USA, made a an extensive study about the volatility spillover effect of the US and Asian stock markets in the aftermath of the financial downturn. Prof.Zhang Chengsi from the Department of Economics of Money, Banking and Financial Markets, Renmin University of China, shared his studies on the factor of confidence that has an effect on China’s Monetary Policy. Prof.Lin Jianfu from Taiwan Institution of Economic Research talked about the new development and new ideas of the economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Regions. 


The meeting covers the areas of environmental, social responsibility and governance, big data of economy and finance, international finance, capital asset pricing, behavioral finance, corporate finance, financial investment, information sci-tech and E-governance, market management, public governance and law. About 300 experts and young scholars participated in the meeting from 35 universities and research institutes like Taiwan University and Renmin University of China as well as from the countries of Romania, USA, the Netherlands, UK, Spain and Turkey. In addition to the keynote speeches, different topics were discussed in 24 sessions. 


It is reported that the meeting was initiated by Liviu-Lucian Albu, Academician of Romanian Academy of Social Sciencies, and sponsored by OUC School of Economics as an open and academic platform to boost exchange and research while demonstrating OUC as a world-renowned research-oriented university.
